The Name Game


Ashoke name means "without sorrow." This relates to his personality by once his son was born he does not have sorrow due to his wreck anymore. "Ever since that day, the day he became a father, the memory of his accident has receded, diminishing over the years." ( page 78).

Ashima name means "boundless, limitless." This does not relate to her personality because she expresses has she feels trapped in America and homesick. "she is terrified to raise a child in a country where she is related to no one." (page 6). This just shows she feels like she can not do this by herself.

Nikhil name means "whole, entire." This relates to him because he is trying to embrace all of the American culture instead of the Indian one. "the album is a present from his American birthday party." (page 74). This shows that Nikhil has two whole cultures he has learned and is embrassing his American culture more.

Sonali name means "gold." This relates to her as at her namesake party she picks the money and soil. Representing wealth and gold is associated with wealth. "She plays with the dirt they've dug up from the yard and threatens to put the dollar bill into her mouth." (page 63).

My dads name is Fred and his name means "peaceful leader". This does work for my father as he is always trying to help others and lead my small town to living a better life through little projects in the community.

My moms name is Shana and her name means "youthful." This does pertain to her as everyone always talks about how much younger she looks for her age.

My name is Sydney and my name means "wide island".  I don't know how this can pertain to anybody's personality. So I don't think this pertains to me.

    I think it's funny sydney means wide island. that's hilarious because you're not a wide island. On the other hand, shana's is on point. I see she's quite up to date with things because she has a youthful mind. She's really funny, like way funnier than you which I really love about her. yes she looks extremely young! Fred is quite calm and that's what I like about him.

Journal 2: Each generation is different than the one before it but sometimes that difference is not in the new generation being smarter. Generations before us tell us we are smarter because we are learning from the older generations mistakes, but the younger generation has to be willing to learn and listen. The Origin of Ants

My interpretation of The Origin of Ants is that it was a very good and cool story. It is about a poor man who does not like to work in another country to make more money for his family which results in this wife giving him smack talk. To come home the guy tells his wife that he has developed a great sense of smell and that will bring their family fortune. The king hears of this man and wants to tet his ability and he passes. Knowing that his talent is actually made up he retires so he does not get sent to jail for impersonating. The poor guy proved his smelling powers so well that the people of the town threw him so high in the sky that he turned to dust once he came down and the dust turned into ants. He was also told by the king that if he could figure out the smell of what he had hidden then he could hold any position at court under the king. Urban Legend

       The urban legend I read was called "The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs". During this legend a teenage girl goes and babysits for a family that has three children. When she arrives at the house all three of the children are already asleep and the parents tell her to not to disturb them. She follows their orders and quietly works on her homework downstairs. She receives a phone call and there was no one on the other line. The phone rings again but this time with a creepy voice that says 'have you checked on the kids'. This phone call was made two more times. The girl was very scared and called the police. The police were able to track the caller to the same house but upstairs. They tell the girl to get out of the house and right as she did the man appears at the top of the stairs covered in blood.
